Johnny Deep animatronic

Because of the very popular Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Disney has decided to update their rides in Disney Land. This is a very good example of how a real life actor is replaces by an animatronic. This makes it possible for the actor to “be there” for the kids, which would otherwise be impossible. It really is quite remarkable how life like they have made the Jonny Deep character, and Johnny Deep has nothing but praise for this animatronic.

I think it’s quite interesting to have a character replaced by an animatronic, just think of the possibilities this could bring us in the future. We might be able to revive famous people from the past, like Einstein, JFK, and even Hitler! But this does sounds really weird, but why not? This would make it possible for people to experience historic events in a new and intersting way. Why not hear John F. Kennedy’s famous “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech from 1963, West Berlin.

Kinetica animatronic

This is a picture I took of an animatronic at my visit to the Kinetica Museum. A very interesting and intricate animatronic, which looks like a man trying to fly a plane with the help of a cycle. This looks a lot like the old movies you see where people try to “fly”.

Start of 1st etude

I have decided that my first etude will be about animatronics, because I think it’s an interesting subject.

To start things of, I will define what animatronics are with the help of Wikipedia and an online dictionary:

Dictionary.com has the following 3 result:

1. the technology connected with the use of electronics to animate puppets or other figures, as for motion pictures.
2. The technology employing electronics to animate motorized puppets.
3. the construction of robots to look like animals (developed for Disneyland)

“Audio-Animatronics is the registered trademark for a form of robotics created by Walt Disney Imagineering for shows and attractions at Disney theme parks, and subsequently expanded on and used by other companies. The robots move and make noise, generally speech or song. An Audio-Animatronic is different from android-type robots in that it works off prerecorded moves and sounds, rather than processing external stimuli and responding to them. Animatronics has become a generic name for similar robots created by firms other than Disney.”

I think those two sources gives a pretty good idea of what animatronics are, I found a video on animatronics.org which shows it as well.
